“I have been training at the St. Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy since November of 2015, and joining was one the best decisions I’ve made. Brandon teaches skills that could save your life some day. But it’s more than that. Jiu jitsu teaches respect for others, and for yourself. You will discover and push your boundaries – mentally, emotionally, and physically. Jiu jitsu is rewarding in a way that no amount of money can buy. It is an art, a science, self defense, and a community that will form an everlasting part of your life.”

“I honestly never thought I would take part in any type of martial arts, but after just one BJJ lesson, I was completely hooked! The lessons are great and the workout is amazing. Not only are you learning the sport of Jiu Jitsu but you are also learning self-defense. Brandon does a great job at breaking down the skills and taking the time to individually help you grow. I have felt incredibly welcome since the day I walked in the door. I looked in to other gyms closer to home to continue exploring my new found passion and nothing else compared to the St. Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy. Now, I’m driving 45 minutes in traffic most days just to get to class 3 times a week and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. Thank you for expanding my confidence and keeping me healthy.”

“I’m the first to admit I was reluctant to try bjj. Mainly due to the fact that my only martial arts experience was earning a yellow belt in tae kwon do when I was about 9. But also I saw bjj as a traditionally male dominated sport and was nervous going into it as a female. I soon realized that I had no need to be intimidated. The St. Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy provides a very accepting atmosphere no matter what your level of experience is. The instructor is patient and willing to work one on one with you but also gives you the freedom to work out how to do techniques at your own pace. There is also something truly satisfying about being able to see the progress you make. I can tell I’ve gotten stronger and even though my job only allows me to train once a week or so I can tell my technique is improving. I’m a total work out fanatic and I love having something totally different in my routine. Though really the biggest bonus has been the self defense application. Just knowing I now have options if things go bad is very empowering.”

“My name is Chou Heu and I am 32 years old. I have been training at Saint Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy for about 8 weeks at the time of this writing.  I have been blessed with the opportunity to train five times a week. If I have attended about 30 training sessions so far and I have enjoyed every single one of them. My nephew joined me on a tour and we signed up immediately after a quick demonstration of a few techniques. The coaches are friendly, the mats are clean, and the comradery is unlike anything I have been involved in. I currently have a personal trainer for two sessions per week at a local gym and this is without a doubt a better value. I will not only learn how to defend myself, I will get fit while doing it. I have since cancelled by personal training contract at the local gym and I am finishing up my personal training sessions. I am currently in the foundation program, but I believe, when the time is right, I will be invited into the mastery program at the academy. Overall, I highly recommend Saint Paul Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy. If you need a place to train or happen to be interested in BJJ and you are in the twin cities, come on by. I hope to see you on the mats one day, not as an opponent, but a training partner.”
